Reigning world champion sidecar racers Tim and Tristan Reeves steered the Eastern Airways LCR to a double victory in the annual Festival of Sidecars races at Mallory Park on Sunday.
Mixed weather awaited the Kent brothers with heavy showers hampering their progress and the open race for F1 sidecars saw the rain falling steadily making tyre choice easy. “It was full wet weather tyres all round with no options in those conditions,” said Tim.
But the brothers Reeves found themselves down in eighth place after a bad start and had to make their way through the field before taking the lead on lap three. From there they never looked back and took a comfortable victory well ahead of Greg Lambert and Rick Long who came home in second place.
By the time they took to the grid for the Dave Roberts Memorial race the track was still wet in places but with a dry line appearing on the racing line.
Tim opted to use an intermediate tyre in the front and slicks on the rear and side and settled into second place behind race-leaders Sean and Mark Hegarty. Tim was content to sit in second place for a while before taking the lead at Gerrard’s on lap two of twelve. He powered the LCR Suzuki away to establish an unbeatable lead and took the chequered flag well ahead of Eastern Airways teammates Billy Gallros and Jonny Briggs. |

“It is a great honour for us to win this race which is dedicated to the memory of my former team principal Dave Roberts who sadly passed away last year. It is a fitting tribute to Dave who was so pleased to see us clinch our first world championship.” Said Tim.
Although their world championship duties are now over the Reeves brothers will see race action once again when they visit Brands Hatch at the weekend for the MRO meeting where they are to contest a race dedicated to the memory of Gerald Gadsden who used to work alongside Tim and Tristan’s father Brian.
The following weekend the Reeves brothers head to Ireland where they will ride in the sidecar races in the Sunflower meeting at Bishopscourt before returning home to defend their title at the annual sidecar burn-up at Lydden Hill where they have won the title on three previous occasions – 2000, 2002 and 2005.
