Tim Reeves helps at Charity Fund Raiser

World sidecar champions Tim and Tristan Reeves attended the annual Day of Champions at Donington Park held prior to the British Grand Prix at Donington Park on Thursday.

Along with other sidecar drivers Tim made his world championship-winning outfit available to give taxi rides to the public attending the event. The sidecar rides are one of the highlights of the event and all the outfits were fully booked for the 1 ½ hour spot on track at 1pm.

For a donation of £30 each time Tim took his quota of 19 passengers, which included three very brave females, for a two-lap trip of a lifetime around the 2.5 mile Leicestershire circuit and as the passengers were dropped off at Redgate corner after their trip every one of them had a huge smile on his/her face and made the comment that the trip was “unreal”.

Altogether the sidecar rides made a fantastic £4,000, which was handed over to the Riders For Health Charity organisers. The final total raised at the event looks set to be almost £191,000, smashing last year’s total by an incredible £18,000. The money will make a fantastic difference to the life-saving programmes of Riders For Health – the official charity of MotoGP.

As ever the spectacular climax to the day was the main auction, which saw the stars of MotoGP working with a huge crowd at the stage to raise exactly £76,000 (£16,00 more than in 2005). Leathers and helmets from some of the top riders in the world including Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards were auctioned off and fetching fantastic prices and boosting the coffers of the charity.

Tim enjoyed his day at Donington and said: “We have taken part in this fund-raising event for a few years now and it never ceases to amaze me how much people are prepared to pay for a ride around the track onboard my outfit. We all enjoyed ourselves and raised a fair amount of money. We are only permitted to be on circuit for 1 ½ hours, which is a shame, we had to turn people away as there was insufficient time to get them all out there. Maybe they will give us an extra half hour next year!”

Tim and Tristan return to action next weekend – June 18 when they travel to Germany and the famous Sachsenring circuit for the next round of the world championship where they hold a 17-point advantage over Tero Manninen and Pekka Kuismanen.

Because the Eastern Airways team failed to win at Assen they can remove 10kg of the 30kg weight penalty while last week’s winners Manninen and Kuismanen will have to add 10kg to their outfit.
