Tim and Tristan Reeves win fourth side car burn up title

Reigning world sidecar champions Tim and Tristan Reeves rounded off their season in style by adding the Sidecar Burn Up trophy to their haul of winners silverware on Sunday at wet and windy Lydden Hill.

Saturday’s qualifying saw the Kent world champions secure pole with a two second advantage over Roger Lovelock and Rick Lawrence going on to take victory in the opening race 14.2 seconds ahead of Simon Gilbert and Carol McBride.

The weather brightened up for the second race on Saturday and Tim and Tristan stepped up the pace to secure their second win of the day crossing the finish line 10. 8 seconds ahead of Lovelock and Lawrence.

But the rain returned on Sunday morning and atrocious conditions awaited the riders as they prepared for the Ray English Challenge race, which again they won in style from Lovelock and Lawrence.

The Reeves brothers went on to win the next race with an 8.2 second advantage over Sean and Mark Hegarty and were nicely poised to add to their total of wins as they took to the grid for the feature race of the day, the 2006 Sidecar Burn Up for the Watsonian Challenge Cup.

Run over 12 laps of the one mile Lydden circuit it was another lights to chequered flag victory for the double world champions who crossed the finish line over 10 seconds ahead of Gilbert and McBride to claim their fifth victory of the weekend and their fourth Sidecar Bun Up title.

“We had the TV cameras down here on Thursday to film us preparing for the race,” said Tim. “The footage went out on Friday and a lot of viewers decided to come and watch the racing for themselves. There was a huge crowd over the weekend; I have never seen so many people at Lydden before. It is such a shame that the weather spoiled it for them.”

The Burn Up concludes the Reeves brothers’ season of racing but it wont be too long before they are back in action as they are to attend the official winter test at the demanding Cartagena circuit in Spain on December 11, 12 and 13.
